Wanted A Girl

My friends are talkin’ ’bout the mess I’m in
They’re comin’ ’round and askin’ where I been
They want to know the spell you got me in
To give up my pool table from the backroom at Slim’s
I tried to tell them how you breathe my name
The way you share my dreams with just one gaze
I can’t imagine havin’ to explain
But give me one word this is what I’d say

She’s Heaven, Heaven, Heaven of mine
And when she holds me like a warm sunshine
It’s Heaven, Heaven, Heaven you know
Tell me one more time you’ll never let me go
Don’t ever let me go

Well Frankie owns the joint at 5th & Grand
May be the only one who understands
He sees us walkin’ on by, hand in hand
Smiles through the window tips the drink in his hand
Well Rita caught him with a tear in his eye
She walked on over there to ask him why
When she got close enough he grabbed her tight
Swept her up in his arms, I think I heard him sigh

Hey Heaven, Heaven, Heaven of mine
Come on and hold me like a warm sunshine
‘Cause you’re Heaven, Heaven, Heaven you know
Tell me one more time you’ll never let me go
Don’t ever let me go

Sometimes I sit beside the bed at night
And thank the Lord he let it go so right
I climb in next to you and turn out the light
Then I hear your voice it whispers soft and light

Hey Heaven, Heaven, Heaven of mine
Come on and hold me like a warm sunshine
‘Cause you’re Heaven, Heaven, Heaven you know
Tell me one more time you’ll never let me go
Don’t ever let me go

Well come on darling don’t make me wait too long
The motor’s humming, rumble on, feel the song
Of Hemi-powered dual –quad juice…Mama, cut me loose
She’ll come down my street, meet me down by the curb
With rubber burning, neighbors say, “Got some nerve”
Peeling out to who knows where, won’t you take me there?

And the way I feel I don’t relate
To anyone who sits inside and just wastes away
We got our friends, a full tank of gas
Let’s find a road, leave this town in our past
Let’s go for a ride

Rev it up darling we’re moving way too slow
Are you uncertain? Want to stay? Want to go?
I came here for something good, tell me if I could?
We’re like a laser, burning on down the road
Sidepiped and pinstriped sucker’s try to be bold
But we’re 500 horses strong, see us then we’re gone

And the way I feel I don’t relate
To anyone who tells you, “Girl, give that car away”
And I don’t care there’e nowhere to go
All that really matters is we’re not at home
Let’s go for a ride

Oh, lord, what did I do now?
Seems I’m forever locked out of my own house
While you’ve been screaming inside, changing your mind,
doing your time, well do right and just go
Go on and tell them your life is a waste
Say I’m the cruelest man on the face of this earth,
Do your worst, oh but first, may I remind you all you’ve done for me?

When I was falling you moved out the way
When I was walking you led me astray
Well I left all these petty lies behind,
While you’re makin’ all the rules that I live by
And maybe you meant it when you said there that you hoped I would die?

I know you called the cops on me and all the neighbors came to see
Kick me down, but I don’t care that they dragged me out in my underwear
You can slash my tires, burn my mattress, hope it makes up for all this sadness, dear
Don’t you worry ‘bout me here

‘Cause when I was fallin’ you moved out the way
And when I was walking you led me astray
Well I left all these petty lies behind,
While you’re makin’ all the rules that I live by
And maybe you meant it when you said there that you hoped I would die?

Well when I’m fallin’ you move out the way
And when I was walking you led me astray
Well I left all these petty lies behind,
Why you makin’ all the rules that I live by?
And oh, I think she wants me dead

When I got up at 5a.m.to work down at the fill station I never thought I’d see you there that night. Well it’s been ‘bout three months or more since you slammed and broke our old screen door and walked off for a better cause to fight. But oh, you looked so beautiful in his shiny red convertible. A new dress on and new friends too, I wished that I could say to you, ” Hey, I want you. I still want you.” But you’ll say it’s not enough. But still, I want you. I still want you. You know my heart won’t mend. So let’s not pretend.

My memories stood impatiently waiting for what you’d say to me, but you turned and looked away back down the road. I’m sure your friends they wondered why you got so shut down as I walked by remembering all our history untold. And oh, here it comes again, the feeling I’ve lost my best friend. Well you left for fame and money too, but true love don’t live in spare bedrooms… and I want you, so don’t say I’m not enough. How I want you. I still want you. You know we’re not like them. So let’s not pretend.

I watched as you all drove away with my head still stuck in yesterdays, still searching for the guts to call your bluff. And later that night at the bar on a beat up stage with beat up guitars, well you walked in and I think I’ve had enough. All I got’s these cowboy chords, a Yankee mouth and broken words, and nothing else to offer you but love. Cause I want you, I want you, I want you, I want you..

Sometimes there in the evening sun
Sometimes up with the storm
Sometime you will be quite assured
There’s no place left to turn

Sometimes the memories make you smile
Sometimes you get what you get
Sometimes you wish you’d gone away
But can’t let go just yet

Well you can come to me
Woman come to me
Come and come to me
Lay down with me

Somewhere up in the atmosphere
Somewhere in the depths of it’s core
Somewhere there must be peace on earth
To justify this war…

Sometimes there in the quiet rain
Sometimes in the blare of the sun
Sometimes even the song you sing
The silence overcomes

Well you can come to me
Come and come to me
Woman come to me
Lay down with me

Well you can come to me
Woman come to me
I will comfort thee
We’ll lay down and dream

Well she’s deep, crimson lips like a secret eclipse and I’m all in blurs
A sullen summer dress and we’re weak in distress around this pearl
Oh, but these lashes left me to ashes and heavy like sleeping for days
But we won’t get no rest obsessed by a quest I’m a homesick boy far, far away
In rain and an ancient game I fall and I can’t be blamed
She’s a walk in Spain
Ain’t no shame though I can’t explain. Stir the flames and the fanblades say
She’s a walk in Spain
Hot by the sun and cold by the wind, up and back over descend
And her hands turned to fists, crashed down in bliss, and I heard her whisper… again
It’s the rain and an ancient game I fall and I can’t be blamed
She’s a walk in Spain
Ain’t no shame though I can’t explain. Stir the flames and the fanblades say
She’s a walk in Spain
My heart’s on display an ocean away it may never have belonged to me
With one look in her face or one sweet embrace I awake on the road by the sea

Can I borrow you a moment
Because I’d like to make it clear
Your eyes are sweeter when they’re looking at me
The room gets warmer when you’re near
Before you tell me you feel nothing
Say I presume a bit too much
I’d love to hear it straight from you girl
Say you never, ever thought ‘bout us
Because I saw the way you’re looking at me

And I thought maybe, when you’re all alone
You may wonder what it’s like to have me in your arms
But your pretending it’s so complicated
When it’s oh so simple and true
I’m for you
And I was hoping that somewhere deep inside
You’re feeling the same way too

I loved you when you’re walking by me
And even when you walk away
See there’s this little move you do, well you do it
It’s like two parts strut and one part sway
How I’d love you in the morning
After I’d loved you through the night
I’d love to love you with that look on your face
Like you ain’t knowing wrong from right
Yeah I just saw the way you’re smiling at me

And I thought maybe, when you’re all alone
You may wonder what it’s like to take me home
But your pretending it’s so complicated
When it’s oh so simple and true
I’m for you
And I was hoping that somewhere deep inside
You’re feeling the same way too

Well maybe, when you’re all alone
You may wonder what it’s like to have me in your arms
So stop pretending it’s so complicated
When it’s oh so simple and true
I’m For You

Come let me love you the water’s cool the night is young
Come let me love you the water’s cool the night is young
You’ll sink just like a stone I’ll love you down, down, down, down, done.
The deep blue sea, darling, is calling you, you want to come?
The deep blue sea, darling, is calling you, you want to come?
We’ll slip down in the brine and you’ll be mine, mine, mine, mine, done.
Oh, babe, you know it’s safe
Come drifting in my waves
You won’t get older
Just be my lover
If life gets lonely, see
Well come to me and don’t let go
Caress you in my undertow
Come let me love you the water’s cool the night is young
Come let me love you the water’s cool the night is young
You’ll sink just like a stone I’ll love you down, down, down, down, done.

Good morning it’s time to wake up!
Good morning it’s time to wake up!
Good morning it’s time to wake up!
Good morning it’s time to wake up!

I hope you had a good night’s sleep,
I hope you slept real well,
But now it seems the sun’s come up
and it’s time to get up and yell, yell, yell!

Good morning it’s time to wake up!

I’m wide awake but in my dreams
I’m torn in two I’m in between
How can I say it make it clear
I’m sure you think I’m really here
You’re rambling on and on and on
‘Bout everyone whose come and gone
How can I say it so you’d know
It’s why you stayed it’s how you’ll go and you’ll ask why
With justified good-byes
As if you cared what I had to say
Nobody smiles ‘til it’s done their way
Listen all your pictures have been blown
And every channel here is snow
When every ending looks the same
Guess who’s winning at their game?
So no one matters, no one cares
I’m standing here, you say I’m there
And when we’re dancing ever slow
Your only thought’s when I’ll let go for the last time
And why can’t you be mine?
So I made you cry and you think it’s a sin
‘Cause I said it’s all around and you won’t let it in

and you will never be loved…you will never be loved…
said you will never be loved…you will never be loved…
and you will never be loved…never be loved enough, enough, enough…

Oh, my head…it’s achin’ for the bed
I ain’t been there since half past noon
And my girl, she took a walk and it’s long since after dark
I think she’s tryin’ to find a way to say we’re through
Well baby, don’t you say it, I don’t think I can make it
How could you turn around and be so mean?

So, honey don’t you leave, you’re all I’ll ever need
I’ll get the horse and castle if you’ll be my queen

Oh, don’t go…it’s not too late you know
I’ll change my ways, I’ll be so good to you
I won’t tell no stupid jokes, and though I’ve never smoked,
I’ll make a sacrifice, I’ll even quit that too
I wish that I could scheme it, I’d make you stay, I mean it
I’d tell you that you’re everything I dreamed

So, honey don’t you leave, you’re all I’ll ever need
I’ll get the horse and castle if you’ll be my queen

There’s a sorrow that preys on me, when I leave it waits for me, mournings I’ll never live down
And the way that she spites, she’s a venomous bite, and a poison I need around
Well I walk in Ventura on tar covered beaches, days in the cold bay with street cars and preachers
I can’t hide the pain, can’t drink it away, can’t sleep it off or spit it out she throws it right back at me

Once… I wanted a girl to love only me, but that just won’t be

Her name was a hurricane that crashed down and washed away everything I thought was mine
Conversations I’m in, they ask how you’ve been and I’m so sick of saying “just fine”
‘Cause I wish you were sad and you’d let me be mad and you’d give up those pictures of all that we’ll never have
Sleeping alone, I hang close by the phone waiting to kill it off, just cut it out, I just want you back today

Once… I wanted a girl to love only me, but that just won’t be
And all this mistrust as I lie in my bed until 3:00,
And I tell myself, tell myself how lonely it is to be free
