Gregg Sarfaty

Gregg Sarfaty, singer, guitarist and songwriter for The Mighty Stewboss grew up in the swamps of Jersey. Here is a brief look into the mind of a self-proclaimed genius…

What were the last three records you fell in love with?
Ray LaMontagne – Trouble
Lucero – 1372 Overton Park
My Morning Jacket  – Z

What are some things you love doing, other than playing music?
Cryptography, code-breaking, it’s pretty boring stuff, you wouldn’t be interested.

Have you ever been arrested?
No. Well, I’ve been handcuffed in the back of a police car before, but ‘arrested’, no.

Were you found guilty?
I learned at a young age to never get involved unless the plan was foolproof.

How many brothers and sisters do you have?
I have three half-sisters (older) and two stepsisters (younger).

Ever seen a grown man naked?
Not on purpose.

Ever been to Spain?
Yes, and on purpose.

What musician did you want to be when you grew up?
Jimi Hendrix, then Ray Charles, then Clarence Clemons, then someone told me I wasn’t black and I ditched the whole idea.

Who is your favorite jazz musician of all time?
Chet Baker, absolutely.

What is your favorite Stewboss song, and why?
Well, since I write them it’s very difficult to pick a favorite. They’re all like my own little children, some grow up to be president and some grow up to be junkies, but you love them all the same, y’know? OK, “Fill Station”, whatever!

What is the thing you believe is true that most people don’t believe?
That every fortune cookie I’ve ever opened has been 100% accurate.

What are you wearing right now?
Jeans and a t-shirt. Where are we going with this?

Who’s your favorite member of Stewboss?
Me, without a doubt.

Women tell us you have a ‘really large unit’, is this true?
Well, I don’t want to brag, but most women, when they meet me, walk away saying “Wow, what a dick!”
